Majestic Kashmir Tour — 7-Day Itinerary (Srinagar to Srinagar)

Route: Srinagar — Pahalgam — Gulmarg — Srinagar (local & Sonamarg excursion)

Day 1: Arrive Srinagar — Dal Lake Shikara Evening

• Arrive at Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport (SXR), Srinagar. Our representative meets you on arrival and transfers you to the hotel.
• Rest and check in. In the evening, proceed for a shikara ride on Dal Lake — the classic Kashmir arrival experience. An hour on the lake as the light drops behind the Zabarwan Hills, with the houseboats of the Boulevard reflected in the water and the occasional paddle of a vegetable seller’s shikara passing alongside. The included shikara ride is timed for the golden hour where possible.

Day 2: Drive Srinagar to Pahalgam (110 km) via Avantipura Ruins

Drive: ~110 km | ~4 hours

• After breakfast, check out and drive south toward Pahalgam. En route, stop at the Avantipura Ruins — two 9th-century Hindu temple complexes dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu, among the most significant early medieval archaeological sites in Kashmir. The carved stonework, the scale of the walled compounds, and the contrast of ancient stone with the surrounding Kashmir Valley are extraordinary and rarely feature on standard tour itineraries.
• Pahalgam (2,130m) is the Lidder River town at the mouth of the mountain corridor leading toward Amarnath and the upper Lidder Valley. Check in and take the afternoon to explore the riverside — the Lidder runs fast and clear through the centre of town between tall pines.

Day 3: Pahalgam Valley Excursion — Drive to Gulmarg (140 km) — Gondola

Pahalgam excursions — Drive: ~140 km | ~4.5 hours to Gulmarg

• Morning local excursion from Pahalgam to the valley’s scenic highlights:
• Betaab Valley — a wide meadow at the confluence of two streams a few kilometres above Pahalgam, named after the 1983 Bollywood film shot here. Lush, photogenic, easily accessible.
• Chandanwari (2,895m) — the narrow gorge at the head of the Lidder, where the river crashes through boulders beneath pine-covered ridges. The start point of the Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage.
• Baisaran — a high meadow above Pahalgam, accessible by pony, with views of the surrounding snow peaks. Known locally as “Mini Switzerland.”
• After the morning excursion, check out and drive to Gulmarg (2,650m) — the high meadow town in the Pir Panjal range.
• On arrival, ride the Gulmarg Gondola: Phase 1 from Gulmarg to Kongdoori (3,100m) and Phase 2 from Kongdoori to the Apharwat Ridge (3,980m). Both phases are included. The Phase 2 summit view takes in the Pir Panjal range, the Kashmir Valley below, and — on clear days — Nanga Parbat (8,126m) on the northwestern horizon. Weather dependent.

Day 4: Drive Gulmarg to Srinagar (90 km) — Mughal Gardens Evening

Drive: ~90 km | ~2.5 hours

• After breakfast, check out from Gulmarg and return to Srinagar. Afternoon visit to the Mughal Gardens on the eastern shore of Dal Lake:
• Nishat Bagh — the largest of the Mughal Gardens, twelve terraces ascending the Zabarwan hillside above Dal Lake. Built by Asaf Khan (brother of Nur Jahan) in 1633. Best in the afternoon light when the chinar trees cast long shadows across the terraces.
• Shalimar Bagh — the “Abode of Love,” built by Emperor Jahangir for his wife Nur Jahan in 1619. More intimate than Nishat; the four-channel Persian char-bagh layout is most clearly visible here of all three Srinagar gardens.
• Evening free for shopping in the Srinagar bazaars — Polo View Market and the streets behind it for Kashmiri handicrafts, shawls, papier-mâché, walnut-wood carving, and silverwork. Or arrange a Wazwan dinner at one of the traditional restaurants in the old city — ask your guide for a recommendation.

Day 5: Srinagar Heritage Tour — Old City & Dal Lake Shikara

• A full day of Srinagar’s historic city — the most layered and culturally rich urban experience in the Kashmir Valley.
• Mughal Gardens continuation: Chashma Shahi — the smallest and most intimate of the imperial gardens, with a natural spring (the “Royal Spring”) channelled through its three terraces since the time of Shah Jahan; and Pari Mahal — the “Fairies’ Palace,” a terraced garden-observatory built by Dara Shikoh on the hillside high above Dal Lake, with the finest panoramic view of Srinagar and the lake.
• Hazratbal Mosque — the white marble mosque on the northern shore of Dal Lake, the most important Islamic site in Kashmir, housing a relic of the Prophet Muhammad. The lakeside setting and the reflection of the dome in the water on calm mornings are as photographically powerful as any site in the valley.
• Khanqah Shah-i-Hamdan (Khanqah-e-Moula) — a 14th-century Sufi lodge on the Jhelum riverbank, one of the oldest timber-frame religious structures in Kashmir. The carved walnut-wood façade and the latticed windows are outstanding examples of traditional Kashmiri woodwork.
• Jamia Masjid — the main congregational mosque of Srinagar, rebuilt in the current form in the 18th century, with 378 wooden columns supporting its pavilion roof. One of the finest examples of traditional Kashmiri mosque architecture.
• Evening: Shikara ride on Dal Lake — the second included shikara of the trip, this one timed for the sunset light on the water and the floating vegetable gardens of the lake’s interior.

Day 6: Day Excursion — Sonamarg & Thajiwas Glacier

Drive: ~80 km each way | ~2.5 hours each way via Sind Valley

• After breakfast, depart for a full-day excursion to Sonamarg (2,730m) — the “Golden Meadow” at the head of the Sind River valley, so named for the golden wildflowers that cover its slopes in summer. The drive follows the Sind River upstream through continuously beautiful mountain forest — some of the finest road scenery in the Kashmir Valley.
• Thajiwas Glacier — the glacier that descends directly to the Sonamarg meadow floor, visible from the roadside and approachable on foot or by pony ride (available on arrival, not included in the tour price). The combination of green meadow, blue glacier snout, and encircling snow ridges makes Sonamarg one of the most photogenic destinations in Kashmir.
• Sonamarg also sits at the junction of the road toward Zoji La Pass and the Kargil-Leh highway — travellers combining this tour with the Ladakh Delight trip can continue from here in the summer season rather than returning to Srinagar. Ask us about this routing at booking.
• Return to Srinagar by late afternoon.

Day 7: Departure from Srinagar
