Route: Srinagar — Pahalgam — Aru Valley — Gulmarg — Srinagar (via Naranag)

Day 1: Arrive Srinagar — Nishat Garden Evening Stroll

• Arrive at Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport (SXR), Srinagar. Our representative meets you on arrival and transfers you to your hotel.
• Rest and check in. In the late afternoon, take a relaxed evening stroll to Nishat Bagh (Garden of Bliss) — the largest of the Mughal Gardens on the eastern shore of Dal Lake, terraced in twelve levels up the hillside above the water with views across to the Zabarwan Range. It sets the tone for the days ahead without demanding too much on a travel day.

Day 2: Drive Srinagar to Pahalgam (110 km) via Avantipura Ruins

Drive: ~110 km | ~4 hours

• After breakfast, depart Srinagar on the road south through the Kashmir Valley. En route, stop at the Avantipura Ruins — the remains of two 9th-century Hindu temples dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu, among the most significant early medieval archaeological sites in Kashmir. The scale of the carved stonework and the village setting around them is extraordinary.
• Continue south to Pahalgam — the Lidder River town at the mouth of the mountain corridor leading toward Amarnath and the Lidder Valley. Check in to the hotel and spend the evening on riverside walks or simply settling in.

Day 3: Pahalgam Excursion — Chandanwari & Betaab Valley — Drive to Aru

• A full day in the Pahalgam valley, starting with the two scenic side valleys that make this region one of the most filmed locations in Indian cinema.
• Chandanwari (2,895m) — a narrow gorge 16 km above Pahalgam where the Lidder River crashes through a boulder-choked canyon beneath pine-covered ridges. The drive alone is worth the visit.
• Betaab Valley — named after the 1983 Hindi film shot here, a wide meadow at the confluence of two streams with views of the surrounding ridges. Lush, photogenic, and easily accessible.
• In the afternoon, drive the short distance to Aru Valley — a quieter side valley off the Pahalgam road, less visited and considerably more peaceful. The meadow above Aru village and the snow peaks visible from the guesthouse terrace on a clear evening make this one of the programme’s most relaxed overnight stops.

Day 4: Day Hike — Aru to Lidderwat Meadow (3,175m)

Hike: 9 km round trip | 4–5 hours | Guide, lunch, and trekking poles included

• The most active day of the tour. A guided walk from Aru village up the Lidder valley to Lidderwat Meadow (3,175m) — a broad alpine grassland where the Lidder forks, one branch leading toward Kolahoi Glacier and the other toward the Tarsar Marsar lakes above. The trail passes through dense stands of Himalayan pine and then opens onto the meadow, with snow peaks visible at the head of the valley on clear days.
• This is the same trail used by trekkers heading onto the Kashmir Great Lakes and Tarsar Marsar routes — walking this section gives a genuine sense of what those longer routes feel like, without the commitment. Picnic lunch at the meadow.
• Return to Aru by early evening.
• Overnight: Hotel Milky Way or similar, Aru Valley

Day 5: Drive Aru to Gulmarg (150 km) via Drung Waterfall & Baba Reshi

Drive: ~150 km | ~4.5 hours

• Return from Aru to the main Srinagar highway and drive northwest toward Gulmarg. Two stops en route:
• Drung Waterfall — a dramatic cascade in the Sindh Valley, easily visible from the roadside and worth a short stop for photography.
• Baba Reshi Shrine — an important Sufi dargah on the slopes below Gulmarg, revered by Kashmiri Muslims as the tomb of a 15th-century mystic who gave up service at the royal court to lead a life of prayer here. The setting — pine trees, carved wooden shrine architecture, prayer flags on the hillside — is one of the most atmospheric in the valley.
• Arrive Gulmarg (2,650m) in the afternoon. The meadow town is set on a natural bowl in the Pir Panjal range — the only level ground at this altitude in the region. In summer the meadow is a mosaic of green and wildflower colour; the Nanga Parbat (8,126m) massif is sometimes visible on the northwestern horizon on exceptionally clear days.

Day 6: Gulmarg Gondola — Drive to Srinagar — Shikara on Nigeen Lake

Gondola to Apharwat Ridge (3,980m) — Drive: 60 km | ~2 hours to Srinagar

• Morning ride on the Gulmarg Gondola — two phases: Phase 1 from Gulmarg (2,650m) to Kongdoori (3,100m), and Phase 2 from Kongdoori to the Apharwat Ridge (3,980m). At the top, the view takes in the full sweep of the Pir Panjal range, with Nanga Parbat visible to the north and the Kashmir Valley floor 2,000m below. Both phases of Gondola tickets are included. Weather dependent.
• Drive back to Srinagar in the afternoon and check in.
• Evening: Shikara boat ride on Nigeen Lake — the quieter western arm of the Dal Lake system, less frequented than the main Dal and considerably more peaceful. A one-hour shikara is included.
• Overnight: Houseboat or Hotel Ash Vale, Srinagar

Day 7: Day Trek — Naranag to Marchoi Meadow

Trek: ~10–12 km round trip | Guide included

• Drive from Srinagar northeast to Naranag — a site remarkable both for its archaeology and its setting. The Naranag Temple Complex is a substantial collection of 8th-century stone temples dedicated to Shiva, positioned at 2,128m on the edge of the Wangath valley with a high waterfall visible directly above. The temple platform, carved column bases, and tank system are among the finest early medieval remains in Kashmir and almost entirely overlooked by standard tourism itineraries.
• From Naranag, a guided trail climbs through fir and birch forest into the highland pastures of Marchoi — an alpine meadow framed by glaciers and towering ridges, used by Gujjar herders through the summer months. The combination of archaeological depth at the trailhead and alpine openness at the top makes this day one of the most distinctive in the programme.
• Return to Srinagar by evening.

Day 8: Srinagar Heritage & Gardens Tour — Dal Lake Shikara

• A full day devoted to Srinagar’s historic city — the most layered and underrated old town in the Indian Himalayan region.
• Mughal Gardens: Nishat Bagh (revisited in morning light — very different from the evening), Chashma Shahi (the smallest and most intimate of the imperial gardens, with a natural spring channelled through its terraces), and Pari Mahal (the terraced garden-observatory of Dara Shikoh, high on the hillside above Dal Lake with the finest view of the city).
• Old City: Hazratbal Mosque (the white marble mosque on the north shore of Dal Lake housing a relic of the Prophet; the most important Islamic site in Kashmir), Khanqah-e-Moula (a 14th-century Sufi lodge on the Jhelum riverbank — among the oldest timber-frame religious structures in the valley), and Jamia Masjid (Srinagar’s main congregational mosque, a masterpiece of Indo-Saracenic architecture with 378 wooden columns).
• Evening: Shikara ride on Dal Lake — an hour on the lake as the light drops over the Zabarwan Hills, passing the floating vegetable gardens, the lotus beds, and the houseboat rows of the Boulevard.

Day 9: Departure from Srinagar

• After breakfast, check out and transfer to Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport (SXR) for your onward journey.
• Direct flights connect Srinagar to Delhi (1.5 hrs), Mumbai, and several other Indian cities. Check-in is a minimum of 2 hours before departure.
